Candice King and Steven Krueger are officially married, surprising fans with a much more intimate ceremony than originally planned.

The couple, known for their roles in The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, tied the knot in a private ceremony at The Chapel at High Point Farm in Tennessee this February.

Their wedding was meant to be a grand event in Nashville, but plans shifted after King discovered she was expecting their first child together.

'We decided to have a small elopement-style weekend in Nashville with just our immediate families, and save the bigger celebration for sometime next year,' Krueger told Vogue.

King, 38, and Krueger, 36, kept their nuptials low-key with only 15 guests in attendance, including King’s daughters, Florence and Josephine, and Krueger’s two nieces.

'We had 15 people in total, including Candice’s daughters and my two nieces. And it was perfect,' Krueger explained.

Despite the small guest list, the couple was adamant about making their wedding day special.

'The most stressful part was making sure the family felt taken care of and could get from point A to point B - which is true whether you’re eloping with 15 guests or managing a crowd of 200,' King shared.

Krueger added that they focused on the essentials: 'We were ecstatic with how it all came together. We focused on the essential trifecta: photos, flowers, and food.'

King also had to navigate the challenge of finding a wedding dress while pregnant.

'Shockingly, there’s not a huge market for wedding dresses that fit over a baby bump,' she said.

'I was quite nervous to find a dress that would make me feel bridal and maternal - and not like the ‘Stay Puft Marshmallow Man’ from Ghostbusters bouncing down the aisle,' she joked.

The couple’s romance blossomed while working together on The Originals, and they made their relationship Instagram official in December 2023.

King shared a recap video of their year, including a sweet kiss between the two, captioning it: 'I laughed. I cried. I laughed till I cried. I loved. Thanks for the dance 2023.'

In May 2025, Krueger proposed, and King announced the engagement via Instagram the following day, revealing that they had been engaged secretly for 'a couple of weeks.'

'I think 38 just might be my favorite year yet ,'  King wrote.

'A couple of weeks ago @stevenakrueger gave me the best gift of all when he asked me to marry him. The privilege of getting older is much sweeter knowing I get to share it with you Steven. Thank you for asking me to dance through life with you. And thank you to everyone for the kind birthday wishes x.'

King was previously married to Joe King, the guitarist of The Fray, with whom she shares two daughters. They separated in 2022.

Now, with Krueger, King is expecting her third child and first with her new husband.

King portrayed Caroline Forbes throughout The Vampire Diaries, which ran for eight seasons from 2009 to 2017.

She later reprised her role in 2018 for the final season of The Originals and made a guest appearance in Legacies during its final season in 2022.

On the other hand, Krueger starred as Josh Rosza on The Originals for five seasons, from 2013 to 2018.

Krueger is currently starring as Coach Ben Scott on the Showtime drama Yellowjackets.
